UK to 'mainline AI in the veins' under new plans from Sir Keir Starmer
The government will be hoping the plans - with promises of billions of pounds and thousands of jobs - can help stymie the claims they are mismanaging the economy and stunting growth in the UK.Tim Baker (Sky News)
Hold on a minute, @HastingsDirect, how do I know I'm not entitled? I mean, you sent me an email saying that if, as I do, pay by instalments, you'll pay not only the higher rate difference but interest, too. I mean, you even list the date I renewed!
So are you saying not only did you 'mistakenly' overcharge, but you've now mistakenly offered a refund? Are you sure you haven't made another mistake, and I should be refunded?

Now that the dust has settled, #CastleCannon was incredibly underwhelmed with the final Gavin & Stacey. The cast seemed to be working extra hard to create comedy; it didn't come across naturally. The 'party' that led to Smithy oversleeping was a prime example, with the cast acting like they were having a good time rather than looking like they were having a good time. Pam (Alison Steadman) seemed wooden in her (stressed) performances, plus it didn't help that many loved characters were missing. Yeah, yeah. I know Doris is dead in real life.
Favourite bits:
Nessa - Mouth organ
Pete & Dawn
Gwen - Who's coming down the stairs?
Other than that, for me, meh.

Just stop for a second, put down that nice coffee you're drinking in your secure Western country and think for a minute. Russia believes Ukraine is full of terrorists; Ukraine kills one of Russia's Generals on Russian soil in a bomb attack. Doesn't that sound like a terrorist attack to you? It's undoubtedly an assassination of foreign soil. Imagine if the roles were reversed and it was a Ukrainian General blown up; I bet you'd be ranting and raving then.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm convinced Israel is simply taking advantage of events. I find it hard to believe that with the leading intelligence service in the world, they were unaware of the terrorist attack about to happen on their soil. It gave them, in their view, the mandate to invade and eradicate Palestine "𝘚𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯!" the opportunity to provide Lebanon with a bloody nose and with the current invasion of Syria and access to Eygipt Israel has managed to almost double its landmass without the West batting an eyelid.
Far be it from me to suggest that the UK, America, France, and a few others are lining up to restock Israel's dwindling arms

So Labour's 'quick fix' of halving prisoners' sentences hasn't worked then; it just bought a bit of time. Of course, far be it from me to point out that any political party could have done that!

We have a local cafe and sandwich shop that was very successful, although owned by a woman who was so large she could barely walk and her husband, who wore one of those medical boots you see a lot these days. I wanted a poached egg sandwich, but every time I phoned the cafe both on a mobile and landline, it immediately cut off, so I walked down the road to the cafe, where I was presented with a guy who had one arm and a stressed-looking young girl. "𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳" I said. The guy told me they had purchased the cafe, but the original owners didn't know the passwords to the Google account, and BT are being arseholes about giving him the original number. So, no telephone orders, then?
While my poached egg was cooked, it was probably the worst, pointless sandwich I've ever had. The yoke was everywhere inside the kitchen foil. It was slightly upsetting to watch him chase the fast-moving egg around the plate with his drainer spoon in an attempt to scoop it up onto the toast.
I await the business to go up for sale or to go under. 🤷♂️

Every year, they do this. Christmas is only four weeks away, and it's an ideal gift for yourself or your geek friend. All the 'influencers' are raving about it, and yet again, it's on pre-order. Do me a favour, Pi Foundation, and announce new stuff in the spring so you can have stock on the shelves by winter.

Oh, I fully understand the technique. It's about raising desire. Many moons ago, when I was selling mobile phones, the ones that you had to carry the battery around in a suitcase. There was a ploy of handing the prospect the phone and letting them fondle it for a few minutes, and then I'd reach across and almost snatch it from their hands. You'd be amazed at their response, it was like you'd taken something from them and they wanted it back even though they didn't own it. You could see it in their eyes. I'd mess for a few seconds and hand it back, then hit them with the price. 99% of the time, they'd sign right away in case you snatched it from them again, even though I was going to because they hadn't bought my demo phone.
I think the Pi Foundation should do what most of the mobile guys do: talk about it, loan out a few presale models and then announce a release date.

That's a cop-out. The US supplied the missiles, and the US (The same as the UK) had to give permission to fire them, so your argument is it's the one who pushed the button or pulled the trigger is to blame.
By your definition, if we or the US, for that matter, give Zelenskyy Trident II SLBM and he fires them, it wouldn't it be our fault?
If you give someone a weapon and they go out and wound or kill someone, even in self-defence, you are complicit.

It seems that the outgoing president, Joe Biden's parting gift, will be to push Russia to the brink of war with the West, regardless of whether Putin is the aggressor in all this. Try to keep in mind the Russians are not just fighting Ukraine but twenty-six other countries as well, all of whom are supplying not only weapons but soldiers too.
Remember, children, the Russians have an ingrained devotion to their country. That's why they called WWII "The Great Patriotic War." and you thought Trump was dangerous, I'm more scared of Biden.

The missus and I came home after a trip to Wickes, and the kitchen fitters had slung the extractor fan out with the cooker. I lept out of the car to retrieve it quickly, and a guy in a van on the main road shouted: "I'm fooking having that!" I replied, "No, you're fooking not!" and took it in the house.
The next thing I know, the bloke had walked up my drive, through my side gate, appeared at my kitchen back door, and said to the kitchen fitter, "Your mates just took my metal." I went out and said, "It's my metal mate, and this is my house, so fook off!"
Cheeky caaant then says, "Are you ripping out the boiler?" Mate, fuck off!

One of the presenters made a good point on the BBC coverage of the US elections this morning. 40% of the voters in Georgia are black or Hispanic. Playing the race card didn't work, and as was pointed out, Hispanics who can vote are legally American; they are not illegal immigrants—a distinction a lot of people should take on board.

s'bout right. I doubt they're going to show reruns of American Apprentice. I dunno why everyone is so shocked. I didn't think for definite that he was going to win, but I was definitely "I wouldn't be surprised."
I know it's controversial, and you're not supposed to say anything, but the average person in the street is sick to death of illegal immigration. And it's not just that; the point is there's a general feeling that people seem to be doing what the hell they like these days: shoplifting, going to ASDA in your pyjamas, and nobody is doing anything about it. If anything, socialists et al. are making excuses for it! This then opens the door to people with right-wing views, and Eric down the pub saying: "I'm voting Reform UK!"
