One thing that annoys me about the Internet is the volume of keyboard warriors who proclaim themselves to be the champions of morals and "Doing the right thing" Yet when Labour announces a third runway, a deafening silence descends regarding Climate Change.

𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝘂𝗻𝘄𝗮𝘆:
🛫 If Heathrow's total airport emissions (Scope 3 included) are around 20 million tonnes CO₂e per year, and the two runways handle all flight activity, A single runway could account for roughly 10 million tonnes CO₂e per year (very rough estimate). Thus increasing the total to 30 Million tonnes.🛬

If the Conservatives had announced this, the web would have gone into meltdown!

There's a delayed reaction from me because I'm so furious. She may have moved my vote in the local elections from LibDems to Greens. I did warn them it was only on loan.

Have you seen the map of infrastructure investments? I don't see much "levelling up" going on. I genuinely can't see what Reeves is trying to achieve. It feels like a provocation, so they can say they tried to support business but we made them be greener. Or she really is the One Nation Conservative the Left said she was, but more Monetarist than anyone expected. Like Tezza May, she's far worse than I expected.

For me, it looks like a lot of Smoke & Mirrors. I can't fathom how the voter falls for one minute, "We'll raise business NI to get some money in." the next telling everyone "We want to work closely with businesses."

These proposals are simply paper lanterns that will probably go up in smoke. Given it's going to take at least ten years for work to start and another fifteen years to complete, I suspect Labour's idea is to gain maximum kudos today for the idea, knowing full well the Tories or A-another will get into power and cancel it long before the first shovel of soil is turned.

That's politics. BadEnoch wants to fix the NHS by cutting taxes. They all think we're stupid. They're right too because Starmer got elected almost entirely by saying what he wasn't going to do. If your policies have no content, they can't upset anyone. We get the politicians we deserve.
(They learned this from UKIP, who had no ideas but hating 'forriners& Lefties' - that only upset people who were never going to vote for them and Tories who just told obvious lies.)

Dunno where you're getting the idea the left is silent about it, I've seen constant mockery disgust and alarm. The very post above yours in my timeline is linking to the Guardian [ theguardian.com/commentisfree/… ]. Even the Guardian!

I agree it'll probably just waste billions and then get cancelled before completion.

I've not seen much wailing and gnashing of teeth on 𝕏 or Bluesky or my Mastodon timeline, for that matter (This instance is not Mastodon). It would seem if you want alternative allegiances, you need to run your own instance like this one. 🙂
